White Buffaloes Arizona Football 34-0 in Boulder

BOULDER, CO – Despite the defense getting off to a good start, Arizona Football (0-6, 0-3) had no answers as Colorado fled with the 34-0 victory.

In a battle of Pac-12 football ineptitude, it was Arizona Football that stood out the most as the Wildcats were passed 365 yards to 280 yards in their 34-0 road loss to Colorado.

Arizona turned to quarterback Gunner Cruz in this one after the Wildcats lost Jordan McCloud to injury for the remainder of the season, and it was a less than brilliant day for the second caller.

Finishing his day with a 13-22 pass for 82 yards and an interception, Cruz would be shot in the third quarter, when he apparently broke his thumb trying to stiffen a Colorado defender while avoiding a tackle.

Will Plummer would replace him, throwing 7-17 passes for 71 yards and an interception as well. The Wildcats finished the day with 153 passing yards.

One of the few bright spots in attack was Jalen John. He would end his day with 71 rushing yards on 11 carries, including a 23-yard one that put the Wildcats on the ground against the Colorado Wildcats. Arizona wouldn’t be able to hit him in four games.

Arizona Football’s defense started off strong, but faltered down the stretch as the Buffaloes fled with the win.

Despite Arizona’s offensive struggles, the defense held on as Colorado’s 14 of points came with a six-pick and a blocked punt return for a touchdown.

The Wildcats even limited the Buffaloes to just six points in the first half, but when the blocked punt took Colorado to 13-0, that’s when things got out of hand and the defense started to run out of steam.

The game was over when:

Trailing 13-0, Cruz threw a stray pass that was intercepted by Carson Wells and came back for a touchdown to bring the score to 20-0. Cruz would be shot on the next series.

Where does Arizona go from here?

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 0-6 (0-3) and see a real possibility of going 0-12 this year, especially since Cruz probably ended the season with a broken thumb.
