SAN Miguel Beer closed this time out to secure a crucial 108-104 win over Phoenix that boosted their playoff campaign in Saturday’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup at PhilSports Arena.
The Beermen led until 13 but unlike their back-to-back losses to Ginebra and Magnolia last time out, held on against the fiery uprising of the Fuel Masters to pull through and get back on track.
With their fourth victory in nine outings, coach Leo, defending champion without Austria, returned to the Magic 8 from their previous 10th place and leveled inactive Meralco and TNT in seventh through ninth places.
“Every game is now a knockout game for us and that will play an important role in our efforts to move up the rankings,” said assistant coach Jorge Gallent, who made the decisions when Austria had no adhered to health and safety protocols.
“So we have to play 48 minutes of ‘San Miguel basketball’ every time.”
