Mecosta County Deputies Report 13-Year-Old Bike on US 131

MECOSTA COUNTY – Deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls Sept. 9-12. Not all calls may be signaled. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.

This is part of a long report compiled by Associate Editor Julie Norwood.

• From Friday September 9 to Monday September 12, MPs responded to six car-deer crashes and three car crashes with no injuries.

Friday, September 9

• At 12:03 p.m., deputies responded to Block 9000 of 220th, Township of Mecosta, for a complaint of fraud. A woman said she sent $300 to a fake Venmo account.

• At 2.07pm, deputies responded to the 9000 block of Clubhouse Drive, Morton Township, for a report of a 72-year-old man who allegedly continued to show up at the business and harass a female employee. The deputies made contact and he was violated.

• At 2.35pm, deputies responded to the 2000 block of 9 Mile Road, Wheatland Township, where a woman filed a complaint alleging her ex was sending threatening text messages.

September 10 Saturday

• At 4:52 am suspicious activity was reported in the 7000 block of West Royal Road. Police say a woman with dementia reported suspicious activity. Police determined that she may have left the garage doors open because she had left the residence.

September 11 Sunday

• At 12:42 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for hitting a fog line near US 131 and Jefferson Road, resulting in a drunk driving arrest.

• At 11:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report from a 13-year-old who was riding a bicycle on US 131 toward Cadillac. His mother picked him up.

• At 3.12pm, deputies responded to a personal accident near 50th and 18 Mile Road. A driver was taken to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital for back pain.

• At 3.29pm, deputies responded to the 12000 block of Lone Oak Drive, Stanwood, for a woman who allegedly made suicidal statements. She was transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.

• At 8.05pm, MPs responded to the 17000 block of Pierce Road. A 15-year-old called, referring to being disciplined and beaten by his father. The case is under investigation.

• At 9:52 p.m., deputies executed an arrest warrant for assault in the 22000 block of Hayes Road.

• At 10:13 p.m., deputies executed an arrest warrant near 30th Avenue and Meceola Road. A woman has been arrested on a warrant for unlawful driving of a motor vehicle. She was transported to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

• At 10:32 p.m., a civil litigation was reported in the 14000 block of 21 Mile Road. Deputies provide a woman with information on how to obtain a personal protection order.

Monday September 12

• At 8:13 a.m., a civil litigation was reported in the 14000 block of 21 Mile Road. Police said no assault took place between a man and a woman. A report will be submitted to the prosecutor.

• At 8.59am, deputies responded to the 1200 block of 19 Mile Road, Fork Township, for a report of fraud. A man who invested $510,000 in crypto through says he now claims he still owes $400,000 in taxes.

• At 10:18 a.m., deputies responded to the 20000 block of 80th Avenue to assist Lake County in an attempt to locate a man connected to GPS. A man reportedly broke into several addresses in Lake County. His vehicle was on video, according to police reports.

• At 11:21 a.m., a civil litigation was reported in the 6000 block of 170th Avenue, Austin Township. A woman reported that the Amish owed her $25,000 for two English bulldogs they had a verbal agreement for. Deputies advised him to contact a lawyer.

• At 3:09 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle injury crash near 19 Mile Road and 220th Avenue in Green Township.

• At 5:15 p.m., deputies responded to the 17000 block of Monroe Road, Deerfield Township, for a harassment report. A caller said he was threatened by a guy who is upset because the caller stole his wife.

• At 6:00 p.m., a man reported finding a bicycle along the White Pine Trail near 15 Mile Road in Big Rapids Township.
