Announcing Sales Tax Holidays for Storm Season Preparedness and Home Hardening

In anticipation of this year’s hurricane season, which runs from June through November, the state of Florida has announced two relevant sales tax holidays.

Disaster Preparedness: May 28 – June 10, 2022

$2 or less
• Cans or pouches of wet pet food

$15 or less
• Manual can openers
• Collapsible or travel pet food or water bowls
• Cat litter boxes
• Garbage bags for pets
• Substrate for hamster or rabbit

$20 or less
• Reusable ice cream
• Leashes, collars and muzzles

For pets
• Pet Pads

$30 or less
• Bags of dry food for pets weighing 15 pounds or less

$40 or less
• Portable self-powered light sources
• Pet beds

$50 or less
• Self-powered portable radios, two-way radios or weather radios
• Gasoline or diesel fuel tanks
• Batteries, including rechargeable batteries, covering AA, AAA, C, D, 6 volt, 9 volt batteries

$60 or less
• Non-electric food storage coolers
• Portable power banks

$70 or less
• Smoke detectors or smoke alarms
• Fire extinguishers
• Carbon monoxide detectors
• Tarpaulins or other waterproof flexible tarpaulins
• Ground anchoring systems
• Portable pet kennels

$100 or less

• Portable generators used to provide light or communications or to preserve food in the event of a power outage

Home Hardening: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2024

During this extended sales tax exemption, homeowners will not have to pay sales tax on the retail sale of impact resistant doors, impact resistant garage doors and impact resistant windows for businesses and residential properties.
