5 arrested in connection with vehicle burglaries in Boerne

Several people have been arrested after an attempted vehicle theft on the morning of Monday May 23 saw the suspects crash into a Boerne police car. the Boerne Police Department were investigating a multiple vehicle burglary alert in the Woods of Frederick Creek subdivision when the suspected thieves hit a police vehicle with a white Mercedes as they attempted to flee, according to a Boerne Police Department Facebook post.

Police were called to the Woods of Frederick Creek subdivision around 3:39 a.m. when a homeowner saw someone breaking into vehicles in the area, Boerne Police Chief Steve Perez confirmed to MySA . Three people were arrested following the Mercedes crash, after which police searched for two more. Perez confirmed that the two suspects were apprehended before 7:30 a.m. from less than a mile away.

According to Perez, more than a dozen cars had been “hit” in the area up to that time, most of which had the vehicle doors unlocked. It is believed that the burglars used a garage door to gain access to the area and steal additional items.

Officers found tools and firearms stolen from the Mercedes, including a rifle and several pistols, according to Perez. Three subdivisions along I-10 – Kendall Creek Estates, Boerne Heights and Woods of Frederick Creek – are believed to have been “hit” by the burglars. Charges are currently pending, according to police.

Those arrested were three 17-year-olds, one 15-year-old and one 14-year-old. The 17-year-olds were held in Kendall County Jail, with one of the minors being taken to Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center on an outstanding warrant for burglary.
